You have probably caught onto the “news” that the world will end sometime tomorrow according to a preacher in the US.
If he is right then I can only wish you and everyone who is dear to you the very best of luck though I suspect like me you fully expect to enjoy your well earned weekend.
He has got me to think about what if it was really going to happen and we all just had one more day to live. Each of us no doubt would stop everything we are doing to do all we can to reach loved ones and close friends to say our farewells and God only knows what else.
Perhaps we could all benefit from heeding his warning and take advantage of it to actually sit down and make a compelling “to do” list, as if it were real a list like no other you’ve ever made before. It’s obvious that some seriously important thoughts and intentions would quickly come in to your consciousness. The obvious extension of this is that maybe these things really need to be acted upon anyway. And, if it were really real and the “big man” called it off and gave us another chance provided we made significant changes to our behaviours, attitudes and commitments what would you have to change and what new activities and goals would you commit to?
It also occurs to me that working this through might serve as a good talking point at a dinner party or over a pint presuming we all see Saturday night. Sitting down with loved ones and making separate lists and comparing them will probably lead to deep insights and significant change in how you would relate to each other.
As a subject for a workshop at work it could well have a profound effect on all manner of activities and ultimately on performance and results. At a minimum it would surely help improve on how everyone is valued and treated, particularly colleagues, customers and suppliers.
This has been on my consciousness since reading about it on a flight last Saturday. Indeed, I have found it influencing the design of the new materials I have been working on this week for our courses in future. I have also been more aware of how I am relating to folks too. It has even got me to work more on myself placing particular emphasis on my self management; I’ve reviewed my progress in my personal development and I have made a fresh commitment to strive to reach for performance excellence in each and every day going forward.
Also this week here in Kent the weather finally changed and the autumn is definitely here again. Thoughts turn anyway to ensuring the year ends well and the goals we have set come to fruition. You make choices consciously and unconsciously every day and I am sure like me there is room to make better ones. Anyway, I obviously hope and indeed pray that he has got it all wrong. Whatever comes to pass may I wish you every success going forward and hopefully here or wherever that may be that we meet again.
